On October 1, a career event at the College of Business-Fairlane Center North featured Jean-Luc di Paola-Galloni, Valeo Group Corporate Vice-President for Sustainability and External Affairs, who presented the company's ambitious goals for 2024.
Known for its innovative work in the automotive sector, Valeo has set its sights on a greener, more sustainable future. The company is committed to developing highly efficient electric vehicles (EVs), a vision that not only resonates with global trends but also places Valeo at the forefront of the clean energy revolution.
The event stood out, not just for the excitement of having Paula-Galloni fly in from France, but also for the opportunity it provided students to engage with a leading figure in the industry. Over 40 attendees, including both undergraduate and master’s students, were eager to hear about Valeo’s sustainability goals and explore potential career paths with the company.
During the presentation, Paula-Galloni highlighted the company’s clear focus on eliminating fossil fuel dependence. As part of their broader sustainable development strategy, Valeo aims to lead the industry in producing electric vehicles that are not only efficient, but also fully capable of competing with existing fossil-fuel-powered cars in terms of performance and affordability. He also emphasized that this vision is a commitment to pushing technological boundaries and addressing the urgent need for greener transportation solutions.
Valeo's research and development (R&D) team, comprising one out of every eight employees, plays a crucial role in achieving the company's goals. With dedicated resources and expertise, the R&D division is working tirelessly to overcome current challenges in battery efficiency, vehicle range, and environmental impact.
What set the tone for the event was Valeo’s openness to student involvement. Paula-Galloni encouraged students to pitch innovative ideas to help Valeo advance in the race for more efficient electric vehicles. Valeo placed itself as a company willing to listen and evolve based on fresh ideas from bright young minds.
Many students took the opportunity to ask Paula-Galloni about Valeo’s current projects and future directions, showing a deep interest in the technical aspects of the company’s work in electric vehicle development. A common theme among the questions was about potential career opportunities. Students were curious to know whether Valeo had open positions that aligned with their skill sets and academic backgrounds. In response, the company’s HR team reassured the audience that Valeo would soon be opening internships and co-op programs across various fields.
In addition to the engaging discussions, students had the chance to submit their resumes in a designated section of the event. This hands-on opportunity to express interest directly with the company was met with great enthusiasm.
With the company’s focus on eliminating fossil fuels, the question on everyone’s mind is now: Can Valeo really take the leap to a future where fossil fuels are entirely obsolete?
One thing’s for sure—the next generation of students is ready to take on that challenge.
