This year was the 96th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and it debuted five new

floats and four new balloons! This year’s celebration was free of social distancing policies and was more or less “back to normal” as opposed to the past two years. The parade itself is 2.5 miles long and runs through New York City, with no tickets needed to enjoy the show.

There were about three million people lining the parade route to watch up close and in person. The live television screening also became NBC’s highest-rated and most-viewed program of the year with 27.7 million online viewers.

Throughout the parade, there were 16 giant character balloons, 28 floats, 12 marching bands, and over clowns.

The performers this year consisted of Big Time Rush, Jordin Sparks, Fitz and the

Tantrums, Dionne Warwick, Blanco Brown, Betty Who, and many more whose performances were transported via floats.

The new balloons consisted of a “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” replica of Abrams Books, “Striker the US Soccer Star” from Fox Sports to celebrate the 2022 FIFA World Cup, “Dino and Baby Dino”, “Bluey” from the Australian children’s program, and “Stuart the Minion” from Despicable Me. There were also several new floats, one of which was Wonder Bread’s “Wondership”.

The parade ended with Mariah Carey performing her hit single, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” alongside her twins, Monroe and Moroccan, and her ex-husband, Nick Cannon, dancing behind her as she sang.
