Dean Amy Finley has been an integral part of campus life at UM-Dearborn since July 19, 2004. Since then, she has been learning what motivates students to participate in events on campus and give back to the community once they graduate.

The pattern she has noticed in UM-Dearborn students is that they come to this institution ready to make the most of their education. Most times this is accomplished by joining student organizations, conducting research with faculty, or getting a campus job.

Dean Finley’s favorite part of her job is the students. She said in her interview, “Students are motivated, enthusiastic, and excited. They really want to learn, want to study… they’re not taking it for granted.” Dean Finley notices the drive that UM-Dearborn students have and would like to help them explore different options on campus.

When asked what the university is doing to enhance the overall student experience, she shared details about multiple projects and programs around campus.

Dean Finley explained the purpose of the renovations in the Renick University Center (RUC). The RUC is considered the “living room” of the campus, so why not make that nickname true? There will be more student-friendly spaces at the front of the RUC. Even a fireplace will be installed! The success of the Wolverine Commons, which opened in 2021, proved that these spaces would be welcome additions to the campus.

There has been an increase in the level of participation in the Wolverine Mentor Collective, a service that provides students with the opportunity to receive guidance and establish connections with current students or alumni.

For students who are experiencing food instability, the Student Food Pantry is available. And, if you need professional attire for an interview, check out the Wolverine Wardrobe located on the second floor of the RUC.

It is clear that UM-Dearborn wants the best for its students, and Dean Finley is making sure of that.

She loves to chat with students, so if you see her in the RUC during lunchtime, say hi!
