The #17 Michigan Wolverines defeated the Arkansas State Red Wolves 28-18 on Saturday at The Big House with the help of a dominant rushing attack which tallied over 300 yards on the ground.

This game meant a little more to the Michigan faithful, as during the first quarter, tribute segments for Michigan mentor, Greg Harden and Renowned actor, James Earl Jones were shown on the jumbotrons.

With this being Michigan’s homecoming game, alumni from the marching band played the fight song with current band members as the team ran onto the field and also participated in the halftime show.

Notable Moments

  • In the first quarter, RB Kalel Mullings rushed for 30 yards into the end zone to put Michigan on the scoreboard.

  • During Michigan’s first drive of the second quarter, RB Donovan Edwards rushed for a total of 42 yards and capped the drive with a seven-yard touchdown rush.

  • In the second quarter, on 3rd-and-6, Arkansas State’s QB Jaylen Raynor was sacked by Michigan LB Ernest Hausmann for a loss of seven and forcing a punt.

  • Mullings continued to dominate in the second quarter for the Wolverines, tallying 42 yards and another touchdown, this time from five yards out.

  • In the second quarter, QB Davis Warren threw a 33-yard dot to TE Marlin Klein, arguably Warren’s best moment of the day.

  • Near the end of the third quarter, when Arkansas State was in the red zone, Raynor threw an interception right into the arms of DB Makari Paige.

  • In Michigan’s first drive of the fourth quarter, Mullings ran for 38 yards with an amazing block from OL Myles Hinton.

Bad Day for Warren

Michigan QB Davis Warren threw three inceptions and got sacked twice. These interceptions were his only incompletions of the game. Warren was benched after his third pick in favor of Alex Orji. Michigan’s woes at the quarterback position have not sorted itself out after three games, which will be a major concern as the Wolverines ramp up in their conference schedule.

Colston Loveland’s Absence

It is suspected that sometime during the second quarter, TE Colston Loveland injured his shoulder. Since then, he repeatedly subbed in and out of the game. Four and a half minutes into the third quarter, Loveland was escorted to the locker room.

Suspicions of his possible injury grew when he returned near the end of the third quarter without his pads and helmet on.

This week, Michigan will be at The Big House facing USC. This will be Michigan’s first-ever “Stripe-Out” game, so if you will be attending, follow the instructions here.

You can watch the game on CBS. Kickoff is at 3:30 pm.
